Like last year, the Nats brought a former Cardinal into camp<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Times<\/span>) as insurance in case Cristian Guzman<\/span> got hurt or worse, played like Cristian Guzman<\/span><\/a> (The Post<\/span>). SS Ronnie Belliard<\/font> is apparently the “Michael Jordan of baseball” or at least that is what Wikipedia said. You’ll recall Jordan’s baseball career was a bit lacking. Anyway, this Belliard is not to be confused with his cousin Rafael, the former Brave who hit somewhere above Mario Mendoza<\/span>, but below Alvarro Esposa<\/span>1<\/sup>. I think. He also came cheap<\/span><\/a> (The Free Lance-Star<\/span>).<\/p>\n

Guzman’s return and Belliard’s arrivial mean that Felipe Lopez is moving to second<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Times<\/span>), something he embraces. The Free Lance-Star<\/span> says that “the season’s fate may run up the middle<\/span><\/a>.” Very true, the pitchers mound is in the middle of the diamond, 60 feet 6 inches from home plate. Oh, he means the middle infield. Yes, good fielding (dare we dream) could go a long way to making the guys standing on the mound appear better.<\/p>\n

It is getting late and I need to eat my Frosted Flakes (and go to work), so let’s say The Wash. Times<\/span> is tops for articles again and Miss Chatter wins again<\/a> for post of the day.<\/p>\n

1<\/sup>In the early 1990s, the Yankees were so bad that Esponosa got the coveted “full page” photo next to his yearbook profile. He was awful. My grandfather used to say that he couldn’t hit but “he was a vacuum cleaner out there,” yet whenever I watched the Yankees, he was booting a ball into the outfield.
