Times<\/span>) having won salary arbitration. Instead of making the $3.65 million the team offered, he&#8217;ll collect $4.15 millon. Nice work if you can get it. Will he get it all as a National? <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/02\/21\/AR2007022101644.html\">More<\/a> from <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>, including news that the pregame show will be hosted by <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Johnny Holiday<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ray Knight<\/span>, another former Red. There will also be a &#8220;sideline reporter&#8221; named <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Debbi Taylor<\/span> nee Wrobleski.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of former Reds, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Barry Larkin<\/span> is spending spring training <a href=\"http:\/\/www.floridatoday.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070222\/SPORTS\/702220353\/1002\/SPORTS\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">helping out<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">Florida Today<\/span>) wherever he is needed. The &#8220;next Willie Mays&#8221; <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">C\u00e9sar Cede\u00f1o<\/span> (Astros and Reds, naturally) will also be in camp.<\/p>\n<p>P <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Tim Redding<\/span> says his undoing was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/sports\/20070222-123547-8438r_page2.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">trying to keep pace with Roy Oswalt<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>). Injuries also took several miles off his velocity, but he believes he is a better pitcher now.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Thomas Boswell<\/span> of <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span> thinks anything the Nats put together out of the 321 pitchers in camp has a chance to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/02\/21\/AR2007022102064_2.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">better than last year&#8217;s rotation<\/span><\/a>. He might have a point, we&#8217;ll check back at the All Star break, if not sooner.<\/p>\n<p>With <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Alfonso Soriano<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Jose Vidro<\/span> gone, the club expects to be <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/02\/21\/AR2007022101682.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">improved on defense<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>). Nobody fielded as poorly as the Nats last season. While I agree defensive upgrades are needed, it will take a lot more than defense to overcome the pitching situation.<\/p>\n<p>Acta is going to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washtimes.com\/sports\/20070221-115118-3574r.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">rely on stats for decision making more than his predecessor<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>), a refreshing development. <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">T(h)om Loverro<\/span> wonders if Acta&#8217;s &#8220;plan&#8221; will be undermined by &#8220;The Plan&#8221; though.<\/p>\n<p>Former Red <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ryan Wagner<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fredericksburg.com\/News\/FLS\/2007\/022007\/02222007\/261840\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">is much more comfortable<\/span><\/a> this year having been tutored by pitching coach <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Randy St. Claire<\/span>. While in Louisville (AAA) Wagner struggled as the Reds wanted him to use an over the top delivery instead of the sidearm style that he had success with earlier in his career.<\/p>\n<p>One solution to the parking situation at the new ballpark may be <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtontimes.com\/metro\/20070221-101846-9687r.htm\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">barges<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>).
