Today is cut day for the Nationals. It was originally scheduled to be tomorrow, but that is the one off day of spring training. Manny Acta<\/span> decided it did not make sense to keep players who were being sent home an extra day. This nugget was buried in a recent Nationals Journal post<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n

Who’s on first<\/span><\/a> — Larry Broadway, Dimitri Young or Travis Lee? (The Post<\/span>)<\/p>\n

Ryan Wagner<\/span>, drafted #1 by Cincinnati when Bowden was GM there, was pleased to be traded to D.C.<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Times<\/span>) last year. Randy St. Claire told Wagner to resume using a sidearm motion that had been successful in the past. Wagner feels much more confident now.<\/p>\n

P Chris Schroder<\/span> will likely be one of the players cut, but sent to minor league camp. He had rough outing yesterday<\/span><\/a> (The Post<\/span>). His failure to protect a two run lead in the ninth puts his ERA over 16 for the spring. “Acta said Schroder must refine his breaking pitches if he expects to stay in the big leagues.”<\/p>\n

Also in the Nationals notebook, P Luis Ayala<\/span> is in no hurry to return, SS Cristian Guzman<\/span> will play his first MLB game of the spring on Wednesday and P Chris Michalak<\/span> thinks more of himself than his manager does right now.<\/p>\n

The daily Wash. Times<\/span> Q&A features Tom Yost<\/span><\/a>, the team’s video guy. I was quite happy to read that the Nats have gone digital. Recently, I read about some team I follow still using VHS tapes. I think it was the Penn State men’s basketball team.<\/p>\n

By the way, the Nats lost to the Dodgers 10-9 in Viera. Even Florida Today<\/span> went with an AP story<\/span><\/a> about the game. ESPN<\/span> Boxscore<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n
