Looking out the window yesterday, I wondered if they would even try playing yesterday’s ballgame. From The Post’s<\/span> gamer<\/span><\/a>:<\/p>\n

A few factors went into the decision to play the game. Though the Nationals and Padres are both off today — and could have, theoretically, played a makeup game — the Padres faced a cross-country trip and, starting tomorrow, a significant series with the Los Angeles Dodgers, with whom they are battling for the National League West lead.<\/p>\n

More important, though, was a logistical problem involving umpiring crews. The crew that worked the weekend series at RFK is due to begin a series in Milwaukee today. The crew due in to work the Washington-Pittsburgh series that begins tomorrow couldn’t make it in time to work a Monday afternoon game.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

In his blog, Nats beat writer suggested they make the game up tomorrow using the honor system. If not for one event during yesterday’s game, I’d say that I wish they went that way — Ryan Zimmerman<\/span> homering to the 500 level in the third inning<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Times<\/span>). If I were the Nats braintrust, I’d get the yellow seat in landed in painted why as soon as possible and make a big deal about it. How about an unveiling on Wednesday?<\/p>\n

Zimmerman didn’t have a perfect day though. He made a costly throwing error with two outs in the fifth that extended the inning. Jason Simontacchi<\/span> gave up a double to the next batter and two more runs scored.<\/p>\n

David Wells<\/span> pitched five innings for the Padres to get the win. I wonder if the Yankees will go after him again.<\/p>\n

The Wash. Times<\/span> noted that the game might be considered a moral victory<\/span><\/a> for the Nationals since no one got hurt. I’ll say that if everybody is still on the active roster on Tuesday.<\/p>\n

What to do with Levale Speigner<\/span><\/a> (The Post<\/span>), a Rule 5 draftee? I am not the only one who thinks that the old Redskins trick of putting a player on the DL (of course in the NFL it is IR) to “hide” him is in order. The Nats may turn to AAA pitcher Joel Hanrahan<\/span><\/a> (The Free Lance-Star<\/span>) when Speigner’s due up again.<\/p>\n

Thomas Boswell<\/span> is back and happy with the Nats right now<\/span><\/a> because Manny<\/span> (Acta<\/span>) being Manny will help the Nats “find out which players have the resilience to survive under the worst of conditions.” Like playing in a tropical depression. Boswell mentions “Lavale Speigner” too. I wonder if Lavale knows Levale.

The draft is Thursday<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Times<\/span>). There are a lot of high picks. Jim Bowden<\/span> is still the GM. Someone get me a nitroglycerin pill.<\/p>\n
