Coming off this off day, the lead stories in both broadsheets is the resurgent SS Cristian Guzman<\/span>. His recent performance, as described by<\/span><\/a> The Post<\/span>, has been unbelievable:<\/p>\n

His weekend in Minnesota, where he played the first six years of his career and went 8 for 14 as the Nationals took two of three from the Twins, lifted his average to .346. He has reached base in his last 11 games, a span in which he is hitting .500 (24 for 48). It would appear to be an unprecedented hot streak from a rejuvenated player.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Yes, it is true, Guzman has become scary good since coming off the DL. That being said, I disagree that he has “returned to his old form<\/span><\/a>” like the The Wash. Times<\/span> headline says. He was never this good. Hopefully, he can keep some semblance of this pace going.<\/p>\n

So, how did Guzman get so much better? He got his shoulder fixed. His former manager with the Twins, Ron Gardenhire<\/span> thinks Guzman hurt his shoulder in 2001 meaning Guzman struggled for fire years with the injury. Yikes.<\/p>\n

Dimitri Young’s<\/span> hot streak has gotten the attention of Phil Wood<\/span>, who wonders who will trade for first baseman<\/span><\/a> (The Wash. Examiner<\/span>).<\/p>\n

Rick Maese<\/span> of The Sun<\/span> ran in one of the president races recently and went way off course<\/span><\/a>. He takes a few shots at the Nats of course, but since I am above<\/span> such petty things, I will not point out the troubles of his employer has been having of late.<\/p>\n

Chad Cordero<\/span> is one save away from his 100th<\/span><\/a> (The Post<\/span>). He is expected to become the second youngest pitcher to reach that milestone.<\/p>\n

In other pitching, pitching, pitching news, John Patterson<\/span> threw a two-inning simulated game at Potomac and will start for them soon. Jason Bergmann<\/span> will make an AAA start for Columbus and Jerome Williams<\/span> will throw for AA Harrisburg. Mike O’Connor (remember him?) pitched for AA Harrisburg recently too.<\/p>\n
