Though it lacked the drama of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2006\/07\/walkoff.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">last year&#8217;s walkoff victory<\/span><\/a>, I&#8217;m quite satisfied with a 6-0 victory.<\/p>\n<p>3B <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ryan Zimmerman<\/span> hit a first inning homer for his first RBI in forever and a day to put the Nats ahead 1-0. Strong pitching from <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Matt Chico<\/span> (7IP 4H 0R 0ER 0BB 4K) and two innings of scoreless work from the bullpen ensured Zimmerman&#8217;s dinger was the GWRBI. However, the Nats bats weren&#8217;t done. In the fifth, C <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Jesus Flores<\/span> singled and was moved over to second by Chico. CF <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Nook Logan<\/span> singled to put runners at the corners. <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ronnie Belliard<\/span> doubled Flores home. With runners on second and third, Cubs manager <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Lou Pinella<\/span> made the dubious decision to intentionally walk Zimmerman. Da Meathook, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Dimitri Young<\/span>, made Pinella pay by hitting a 1-2 curve ball over the left field wall to clear the bases. 6-0 Nationals! The lead held and the second biggest crowd of the year (39,000+) saw one of the Nationals best games of the year.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"post-article-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/07\/04\/AR2007070401140.html?hpid=moreheadlines\"><b>A National Celebration<\/b><\/a> &#8211; <i>The Post<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"post-article-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070705\/SPORTS\/107050088\/1005\"><b>For Nats, a grand holiday<\/b><\/a> &#8211; <i>The Wash. Times<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Chico, who never pitched above AA before this season, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070705\/SPORTS02\/107050075\/1005\/sports&#038;template=nextpage\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">is unfazed by just about everything<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>) it would seem, a helpful trait for a pitcher. Zimmerman says &#8220;he&#8217;s more boring than I am.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of Zimmerman:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Zimmerman has now hit game-ending or go-ahead homers on five different holidays over the last two seasons: Father&#8217;s Day and Independence Day last year and Mother&#8217;s Day, Father&#8217;s Day and Independence Day this year. (For the record, the Mother&#8217;s Day homer actually came in a game that began Saturday night but ended at 1:42 a.m. Sunday on his grand slam.)<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Dick Heller notes that Zimmerman is patient about his stats and progress, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070705\/SPORTS08\/107050087\/1005\/SPORTS\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">but impatient at the plate<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>).<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Manny Acta<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/07\/04\/AR2007070401346.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">is eagerly awaiting the return of Alex Escobar<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>). Why? We know Escobar is just going to get hurt again. Also, Ryan Church has gotten worse every month after a hot start.<br \/><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\"><br \/>Jim Bowden<\/span> is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.examiner.com\/a-813880~Nationals_loading_up_on_teenaged_talent.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">giving dictation again<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash.
