WASHINGTON, D.C. — <\/strong>I don’t know if it was the heat that made the game seem to moved slowly, but the Grays victory over St. Louis was kind of boring until the ninth inning. As he is apt to do, Ryan Zimmerman<\/span> had another game-winning RBI in the bottom of the ninth to propel the Nats to victory. Zimmerman’s heroics were quite timely as well (another trend — 9th inning GWRBI on Father’s Day and July 4 last year) as he was presented with 2006 Larry Doby Legacy award<\/span> for outstanding rookie. He went 3 for 5 on the night and tried to celebrate running around the bases before Dimitri Young<\/span> grabbed him in a bear hug just past second base.

Tim Redding<\/span> was solid for the Nats, giving up only 1 run in 6 1\/3 innings. Jon Rauch let the tying run score in the eighth after Juan Encarnacion reached on an infield single that Zimmerman almost compounded with throwing error — good thing Robert Fick was at first instead of Young. Manny Acta wasn’t worried though, because he knew the St. Louis bullpen was depleted from a long game the previous day. Zimmerman came through and all was well.<\/p>\n

I liked the throwback atmosphere last night. The uniforms were a great change of pace and the p.a. music was much better than usual. Jazz trumps the stuff they usually play during games every day of the week and twice on Sunday. I also enjoyed the middle inning videos profiling Negro League greats.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, I can’t find my camera’s USB cable, so no photos until that gets resolved. Keep an eye on your newsreaders for that update.<\/p>\n
