However, since July 2, he has hit .342. As <a href=\"http:\/\/dcbb.blogspot.com\/2007\/08\/fun-with-endpoints.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Capital Punishment notes<\/span><\/a>, he isn&#8217;t the only Nat hitting well of late.<\/p>\n<p>One day after his first two homer game, Zimmerman went 3 for 5. In his last at bat, he won the game when he singled after three consecutive (wasn&#8217;t it four?) fouled off pitches with the count 0-2. St. Louis reliever <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ryan Franklin<\/span> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsline.com\/mlb\/gamecenter\/recap\/MLB_20070805_STL@WAS\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">had this to say<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">AP<\/span>\/<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">CBS Sportsline<\/span>):<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;And again he gets a hit, so I can&#8217;t do anything about that. I can&#8217;t hang my head and say I made a mistake or anything,&#8221; Franklin said. &#8220;We&#8217;ll see how long that lasts &#8212; see how long that they keep getting broken-bat hits and ground balls in the hole. It will even out.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>I ask, just who is Ryan Franklin to rain on the parade? Bitter much?<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Matt Chico<\/span> didn&#8217;t have his best outing, going only 5 innings and giving up three runs, including two on pitcher <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Adam Wainwright&#8217;s<\/span> homer in the fourth that justifed his spot at 8th in the batting order. Chico did contribute with the bat too, sending <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Ryan Church<\/span> home with an infield single RBI in the second.<\/p>\n<p>The bullpen held the Cardinals scoreless for four innings. <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Chad Cordero<\/span> got a 1-2-3 save with <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Austin Kearns<\/span> snagging a hot shot to right to end the game.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"post-article-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/08\/05\/AR2007080501042.html?hpid=moreheadlines\"><b>Nats Complete Sweeps Week<\/b><\/a> &#8211; <i>The Post<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a class=\"post-article-link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070806\/SPORTS02\/108060070\/1005\/SPORTS\"><b>Nats win all six in homestand<\/b><\/a> &#8211; <i>The Wash. Times<\/i><\/p>\n<p>Have people <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070806\/SPORTS02\/108060074\/1026\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">over-valued Brian Schneider&#8217;s catching prowess<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>) because of his anemic batting average?<\/p>\n<p>Next up are the Giants in San Francisco with <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Barry Bonds<\/span> sitting on career homer #755. Many <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/article\/20070806\/SPORTS\/108060075\/1005\/SPORTS03\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">expect Hank Aaron&#8217;s record to fall with the Nationals in town<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>), but the Nationals have <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">on occasion<\/span> defied expectations. Rookie <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">John Lannan<\/span> gets the ball tonight and has been told <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/08\/05\/AR2007080501268.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">not to fear the embattled slugger<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>). <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Thom Loverro<\/span> of <span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span> agrees and notes <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/article\/20070806\/SPORTS07\/108060077\/1005\/SPORTS03\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">few will remember the pitcher who serves up #756<\/span><\/a> anyway.<\/p>\n<p>Kearns <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/08\/05\/AR2007080501306.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">is wondering what he should do<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>) if he gets the #756 ball. If I were him, I&#8217;d throw it to home plate and have the catcher &#8220;tag&#8221; Bonds out.<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t actually have any strong feelings on Bonds and I think <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Bud Selig<\/span> deserves having to sit through this in agony. The commissioner did nothing of substance for years and years on performance enhancement and now he has to deal with the poster boy for cheating (allegedly) breaking one of the three most hallowed records in the sport. I think Selig has made all of 2&half; decisions in 15 years (cancel the 1994 season, call off the All-Star game; moving the Expos to D.C. was only half a decision because it was so half-assed). <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Hank Aaron<\/span> doesn&#8217;t deserve it of course, but in the end, his legacy may be improved.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Saturday:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">WASHINGTON 12 St. Louis 1<\/span> (<i>CBS Sportsline<\/i> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportsline.com\/mlb\/gamecenter\/boxscore\/MLB_20070804_STL@WAS\"><b>Boxscore<\/b><\/a>)<\/p>\n<p>Did you even see this game? MASN, owned by Peter Angelo$, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/wp-dyn\/content\/article\/2007\/08\/04\/AR2007080401436.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">screwed up the broadcast (again)<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Post<\/span>) for just about everybody. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20070805\/SPORTS02\/108050055\/1026\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Stan Kasten SMASH!<\/span><\/a> (<span style=\"font-style:italic;\">The Wash. Times<\/span>). Angelo$ just has a way of screwing up everything he touches having to do with baseball. Of course, since he is such a <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">vindictive coward<\/span> this can be expected. Note to Kasten: you can buy more time for The Plan by publicly and ruthlessly taking away Peter Angelo$&#8217; dignity sometime.
