Along with baseball and the <strong>sun setting after 8 p.m. for until MID-AUGUST<\/strong>, this is a glorious time of year. Soon, the pools will open as well. <\/p>\n<p>As long time readers, friends and family know, I do enjoy a gin &#038; tonic on a warm evening. After many years of <em>research<\/em>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2011\/05\/how-to-make-a-proper-gin-and-tonic.html\">I believe I have perfected the gin &#038; tonic<\/a>. You may be saying, &#8220;oh, WFY, gin &#038; tonics are gross, they taste like pine cones&#8221; but don&#8217;t worry, I won&#8217;t jump on you for it. A woman I dated in the previous decade used to say that and said to myself, &#8220;don&#8217;t hate, educate.&#8221; She is now my wife; she enjoys one with me all the time.<\/p>\n<p>So, here&#8217;s how to get started. Long-story short <strong>dump out all the ice in your freezer<\/strong> as soon as possible, put a bottle of gin in the freezer (I go with Beefeater, but choose your favorite like <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2015\/06\/visiting-new-columbia-distilling-makers-of-green-hat-gin-in-ivy-city-d-c.html\">DC&#8217;s Green Hat<\/a>), put some Schweppes tonic water in the fridge and get some fresh lime. By the next evening, you&#8217;ll have plenty of fresh ice, ice cold-syrupy gin, and cold tonic. Since you&#8217;ll be outside, you&#8217;ll probably want to skip the glass and use plastic. If you are going the disposable route, I recommend Solo brand cups. Anyhow here is how you make the drink:<\/p>\n<p>Cut fresh lime into quarters (limes cost no more than 70\u00a2 so don\u2019t be skimpy)<br \/>\nSqueeze lime juice into the bottom of the cup<br \/>\nRub the rim of the cup with lime<br \/>\nPlace lime in the bottom of but, rind down<br \/>\nRemove gin from freezer and pour directly into lime at the bottom of the cup. Gin should reach the top of the lime.<br \/>\nAdd ice, I use 6 cubes from a icemaker or 4 from an ice tray<br \/>\nPour entire contents of Schweppes tonic water over ice<br \/>\nStir the drink<br \/>\nEnjoy<\/p>\n<p>See, really easy to have a really refreshing drink <strong>which you should enjoy responsibly<\/strong>. You&#8217;ll probably be on the patio, sundeck or balcony when you do so you&#8217;ll be so relaxed you wouldn&#8217;t even think of driving a car of operating heavy machinery.
