Several days out, a significant snow storm is being forecast: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/news\/snow-ohio-valley-middle-atlantic-northeast\">WeatherUnderground<\/a> (source of that image capture above) | <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/capital-weather-gang\/wp\/2016\/01\/18\/confidence-growing-for-major-winter-storm-this-weekend-but-its-not-a-lock\/\">Capital Weather Gang<\/a> (<em>The Post<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s time to talk about skiing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote twitter-tweet is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/doubleuefwhy\">@doubleuefwhy<\/a> sliding through a wind blasted Frozen hellscape is not for me. One place I&#8217;m openly investigating via the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcski.com\/forum\/85840\">DCski.com forum is Elk Mountain<\/a> in Northeast Pennsylvania&#8217;s Endless Mountains. Any input? It got a good write-up in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2015\/12\/30\/best-places-to-ski-snowboard-near-washington-dc\/\"><em>Washingtonian&#8217;s<\/em> skiing preview <\/a>earlier this season.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, this weekend&#8217;s impending storm could change things.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I&#8217;ll been <a href=\"http:\/\/usatoday30.usatoday.com\/news\/health\/2007-12-30-ski-fitness_N.htm\">lax on my exercises<\/a>, but I&#8217;m getting caught up. All that warm weather kept me cycling which helps the legs quite a bit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Ski areas, reviewed<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In addition to dcski.com, I&#8217;ve profile all the ski areas I&#8217;ve been over the last decade, especially Whitetail. Lots of Whitetail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/tag\/whitetail\">Whitetail<\/a> &#8211; Tuscarora Mountains, Southern Pennsylvania (2011, 2013, 2015)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2014\/02\/february-15-2014-skiing-massanutten.html\">Massanutten<\/a> &#8211; Massanutten Mountain, Virginia (2014)<sup>1000!<\/sup><br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2013\/01\/2013-skiing-timberline.html\">Timberline<\/a> &#8211; Allegheny Mountains, West Virginia (2013)<sup>1000!<\/sup><br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2012\/02\/2012-skiing-blue-knob.html\">Blue Knob<\/a> &#8211; Allegheny Mountains, Central-ish Pennsylvania (2012)<sup>1000!<\/sup><br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2009\/01\/camelback-ski-recap.html\">Camelback<\/a> &#8211; Poconos (2009 sand several times before)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2007\/02\/pocono-skiing-ii-big-boulder.html\">Big Boulder<\/a> &#8211; Poconos (2007 and many times previously)<br><a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2007\/02\/pocono-skiing-i-jack-frost.html\">Jack Frost<\/a> &#8211; Poconos (2007)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I pretty much insist on at least 1,000 feet of vertical these days (though Whitetail is within 60 or 70 feet) and have marked those areas appropriately.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Oh all of those, I discourage Timberline though because it just isn&#8217;t well-capitalized enough to provide a 21st century experience. I hope the encroaching Corridor H (US 48) helps find some serious investment in lifts and snow-making.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Blue Knob is also under consideration. <span style=\"text-decoration: line-through;\">I think the Virginia resorts might just be too far south in this mild winter,<\/span> but if we get another late-week storm, I&#8217;d go to Massanutten again. The story has changed since I started writing this post last week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As always, an excellent resource for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcski.com\/resorts\/\">resort profiles is dcski.com<\/a>.
