It&#8217;s about 100 degrees out now and still the heart of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2016\/03\/here-comes-2016-gin-and-tonic-season.html\">gin and tonic season<\/a>, so like everybody else I&#8217;m thinking TOO SOON. And I love <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/tag\/old-ox-brewing\">Oktoberfest<\/a> beers, marzen is my favorite style.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">My most <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2015\/02\/beltwyland-beer-4-years-in-plus-riggo-red-bull-vs-old-ox-minus-chocolate-city.html#oktoberfest\">extensive review of regional Oktoberfests<\/a> was from 2014 selections, so check that out. First, the stadium details, from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/news\/dc-sports-bog\/wp\/2016\/07\/14\/chicken-and-waffles-redskins-hog-dog-and-more-craft-beer-coming-to-fedex-field\/\">Chicken and waffles, Redskins \u2018Hog Dog\u2019 and more craft beer coming to FedEx Field<\/a> (DC Sports Bog, <em>The Post<\/em>):<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>After adding a craft beer cart on the main concourse last year, Bloyer said the Redskins are making a \u201cmuch bigger push\u201d with craft beer this season. The tasting was held in a rebranded space on the club level called the Craft Haus, which will feature 8-10 rotating taps throughout the season. Tasty, but the flavor is milder than I would have expected given the color. The pub, transformed a boring old warehouse at the end of Mill Street into an appealing space and patio. It&#8217;s right off the W&amp;0D.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Port City, while not on the W&amp;OD, isn&#8217;t far from the Holmes Run and Eisenhower Avenue trails either. It&#8217;s quicker for me to bike there than drive and me and another friend celebrated Father&#8217;s Day for a little bit as shown above. They have a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.portcitybrewing.com\/events\/pedals-n-pints-august-short-ride\/\">Pedals &#8216;n Pints ride on Saturday, August 20 at 10:45 a.m.<\/a>. I might go.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Devils Backbone has <a href=\"http:\/\/wsls.com\/2016\/08\/03\/devils-backbone-brewing-company-to-host-75-mile-bike-ride\/\">a 75-miles long ride between their facilities<\/a> (<em>WSLS<\/em>), but more about them later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I will probably check out <a href=\"http:\/\/www.newdistrictbrewing.com\/\">New District Brewing<\/a>, right by the eastern terminus of the W&amp;OD. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/BI-LJqvhJ5-\/\">They&#8217;ve got a sign now too<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Remember, be responsible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Beer issues<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Washingtonian<\/em> and <em>Northern Virginia<\/em> magazines published their beer issues recently. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2011\/01\/6-microbreweries-coming-to-d-c-area-in-2011.html\">The region has come a long way since 2011<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernvirginiamag.com\/beer-awards\/\">Beer Now<\/a> &#8211; <em>Northern Virginia Magazine<\/em><br>&#8220;a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.northernvirginiamag.com\/beer-awards-directory\/\">directory<\/a> with<strong> more than 50 breweries<\/strong>, half of which are expected to open within the next year.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Emphasis added<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><em>Washingtonian<\/em> is gradually adding beer stories to their web site (easiest way to see the newest search for &#8220;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/?s=beer\">beer<\/a>&#8220;), but go ahead and get started with these too:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2016\/08\/11\/loudoun-county-beer-mecca-breweries\/\">How Loudoun County Became a Beer-Head\u2019s Mecca<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonian.com\/2016\/07\/25\/best-job-ever-smithsonian-hiring-craft-beer-historian\/\">Best Job Ever: The Smithsonian Is Hiring a Craft Beer Historian<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Of course, we can&#8217;t forget <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/lifestyle\/food\/beer\/\">our friends at The Post<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"dealwiththedevil\">A deal with the Devil?<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wfyurasko\/29004781855\/in\/datetaken-family\/\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/8779\/29004781855_c795c4c271_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Devil's Backbone display\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">April brought news that Devil&#8217;s Backbone, the Virginia brewer that had the foresight to make a really good, accessible lager was getting in bed with AmBev.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Sell out? Sure, but that&#8217;s kind of goal of a lot of enterprises &#8212; getting rewarded for what you built.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you are big craft community believer, the sale is worrisome because AmBev can undercut other craft brewers. $9.99 a sixpack is a lot more inviting than $11.99 or higher. That&#8217;s already happening where I shop. If you just like Devil&#8217;s Backbone (especially Vienna Lager) good news &#8211; it&#8217;s cheaper!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The inevitable shake-out of the beer boom is coming one way or another and it&#8217;s kind of surprising big beer is just making it&#8217;s move. A whole generation is entering the marketplace as local\/regional craft beer drinkers, so what else will the big multinationals do?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Devi&#8217;s Backbone is in limbo right now as the transaction isn&#8217;t completed.
