I still wear the original navy cap I bought out of a trailer at RFK Stadium in late 2004. If there have to be separate BP caps, might as well respect historical versions. I previously advocated for <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2013\/02\/nats-new-batting-practice-cap-should-have-been-1967-senators-white-war-version.html\">the &#8220;White War&#8221; caps<\/a> instead of the most recent BP cap, but I like these better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This new cap is essentially the 1963-1967 expansion Senators cap, red piping and all, but with the modern version of one of our greatest consonants. The &#8217;63 model was the first appearance of a curly W.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tangentially related, there was subtle curly W update in 2010 that I only noticed when it was pointed out to me by the since transplanted former Nats blogger, who contributes this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote><p>A couple of visual references.<\/p><p>Here is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportslogos.net\/logos\/view\/57832372013\/Washington_Nationals\/2013\/Cap_Logo\">2011 revision of the Curly W<\/a> and here is the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sportslogos.net\/logos\/view\/zhwd0skhafeh6k5zyl8sr3ptt\/Washington_Nationals\/2005\/Cap_Logo\">2005 original<\/a>, which is really just a freshly rendered version of the Senators&#8217; 1963-1971 cap logo.<\/p><figure><a title=\"Comparison Between 2005 &amp; 2011 Curly W Designs\" href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/42951946@N00\/32428806780\/\" data-flickr-embed=\"true\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2520\/32428806780_e7730d796e.jpg?resize=500%2C250&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"Comparison Between 2005 &amp; 2011 Curly W Designs\" width=\"500\" height=\"250\"><\/a><\/figure><p>Here&#8217;s the side by side comparison:<br><script async=\"\" src=\"\/\/embedr.flickr.com\/assets\/client-code.js\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p><p>The 2005 Curly W recreated several flaws with the 1963-71 original, including most notably 1) The odd flat notch where the &#8220;bar&#8221; meets the left-hand curve of the W; 2) Misalignment where the W&#8217;s left and right curves cross to form the central loop; and 3) Randomly varied line thickness throughout the shape.<\/p><p>The 2011 revision corrected each of those flaws: 1) The &#8220;bar&#8221; now meets the W with a sharp angle and smooth curves; 2) The point were the two loops cross now aligns properly on all sides; 3) The whole W now has a much more uniform thickness.<\/p><p>Unfortunately, the Nats continue to use the 2005 original, with all of its flaws, on all uniform elements, including caps, home and alternate jerseys, and the road &#8220;Washington&#8221; script. The improved 2011 version of the Curly W seems to be reserved for advertising, digital media, ballpark signage, and non-uniform merchandise.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s the handiwork of Ball-Wonk blogger R. Scott Rogers, who currently supports the Nats from self-imposed exile in Wisconsin. Thank you, Scott, see you in the UniWatch comments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Back to headwear, the proliferation of trilbys in MLB giveaways, <a href=\"https:\/\/blog.letteddywin.com\/2017\/01\/25\/magic-8-balls-spiked-water-tater-tots-and-more-nationals-reveal-select-bobbleheads-promotions-and-new-concessions-for-2017\/\">including the Nats<\/a> (<em>Let Teddy Win<\/em>), just shows <a href=\"http:\/\/www.natsenquirer.com\/2009\/01\/hey-manny-whats-with-the-silly-hat.html\">that Manny Acta was a man ahead of his time<\/a> (<em>The Nats Enquirer<\/em>).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Several posts now on BP caps, jerseys and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2017\/02\/nationals-park-needs-to-play-fugazis-waiting-room-during-video-reviews.html\">demanding Fugazi be played<\/a>?
