Times<\/i><br \/>A good article about how the Verizon (nee MCI) Center got built and what it meant for its neighborhood and the District. Hopefully, the ballpark will bring similar success near SE.<\/p>\n<p>Left unsaid is what the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.verizoncenter.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Verizon Center<\/span><\/a> has meant to its tenants. It has certainly been good for the Wizards, but less so for the Capitals.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking of the Capitals, they scored a touchdown and extra point last night in Toronto, <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtontimes.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20071030\/SPORTS04\/110300083\/1005\/SPORTS\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">beating the Maple Leafs 7-1<\/span><\/a>. They chased the Leafs goalie in the first period and five players scored their first goals of the season. <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Alex Ovechkin<\/span> had two goals.<\/p>\n<p>The Wizards begin their season tomorrow night and have their home opener on Saturday.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\">&copy;MMX William F.
