There is a certain burden to being correct…<\/p>\n

On July 6, 2019, the Washington Nationals wore the uniforms of the franchise predecessor, the Montr\u00e9al Expos. It was poor decision.<\/p>\n

Max Scherzer<\/strong> has not been the same since — a long IL (I initially typed DL, old habits…) stay, one start, another long IL stay and several starts that failed to reach six innings. His outing on Tuesday, September 9: 4 ER over 6 innings, not even mediocre. <\/p>\n

The Expos uniforms…broke him<\/em><\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n

It seems the baseball gods have smote the righthander for honoring the corporate history of the franchise instead of civic sports history. To reverse this curse, the solution is quite clear: 1969 Washington Senators throwbacks.<\/p>\n

That’s right instead of celebrating a team that was not playing in D.C. in the summer of ’69, celebrate the one that did. The Ted Williams-led Nats went 86-76, hosted the All-Star game and had the highest attendance of the expansion franchise’s time in the nation’s capital. It was the high water mark of post-WWII baseball here.<\/p>\n

Perhaps it’s too late for Max, but sending him out to the mound, if he’s even available in the ’69 Senators uniforms could be what “fixes” him. It’s crazy idea…but it just might work.<\/em><\/p>\n

Epilogue<\/h3>\n

You know how beat writers have most of their story written before the game is over? That happened last night — Scherzer still needs to be healed, but Kurt Suzuki (along with Ryan Zimmerman and others) might have taken a little bit out of this post…<\/p>\n
