An inspection by a civil engineer from the Department of Transportation &amp; Environmental Services deemed the bridge to require immediate repair to ensure pedestrian safety.&nbsp;<\/p><cite><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alexandriava.gov\/recreation\/info\/default.aspx?id=111976\">Portion of Holmes Run Trail Closed&nbsp;for Repairs<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; City of Alexandria<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A detour has been put in place through Ben Brenman Park and over Duke Street along Richard B. Leibach Bridge. Last Friday evening, the detour was merely going throught he grass and a parking lot for an apartment complex.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.alxnow.com\/2019\/10\/28\/holmes-run-bridge-near-ben-brenman-park-closed-for-immediate-repair\/\"><strong>AlexandriaNow cover the story too<\/strong><\/a>, but had an incorrect description of the closure in the original version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Long-term closures have plagued the Holmes Run Trail: <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2019\/08\/the-holmes-run-trail-is-never-whole.html\"><strong>portions near the I-395 tunnel closed after heavy rain<\/strong><\/a> in July and have not reopened. <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2014\/11\/alexandria-holmes-run-trail-reopened.html\">A sewer line replacement also closed the trail in Fairfax County<\/a><\/strong> until 2014.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>ALEXANDRIA, Va. \u2014 While the reopening of the Holmes Run Trail near Interstate 395 is uncertain, another section of the trail is closed.
