I&#8217;m not going to lie, I can appreciate the aesthetic. It&#8217;s not worth the safety challenges for cyclists and pedestrians though. Nor is it worth the risk of losing the bridge because that&#8217;s probably 5 to 10 years before it gets replaced as we&#8217;re seeing with the <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2020\/08\/august-2020-holmes-run-trail-reconstruction-update.html\"><strong>Holmes Run Trail<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong><a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\"Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mountvernontrail.org\" target=\"_blank\">Friends of the Mount Vernon Trail<\/a><\/strong> is hosting another kudzu cleanup on Sunday, December 6 at 9 a.m. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>Kudzu is a fast growing invasive species that can quickly smother the  trees that make the Mount Vernon Trail so beautiful.<\/p><p>Volunteers  are needed to assist with cutting, pulling, bagging and removing the  kudzu vines. We&#8217;ll have gloves and some hand pruners available, but if  you have some pruners limb loppers of your own, please bring them. <\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Four volunteering spots are still available.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-button aligncenter\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eventbrite.com\/e\/kudzu-removal-on-the-power-plant-bridge-tickets-128867386823\">Register for Kudzu Cleanup on Sunday, December 6<\/a><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Friends of Mount Vernon Trail has also spent the fall<a rel=\"noreferrer noopener\" aria-label=\" fixing up the wooden plank Trollheim Bridge (opens in a new tab)\" href=\"https:\/\/mountvernontrail.org\/2020\/10\/16\/fixing-trollheim-volunteer-events-and-our-gofundme\/\" target=\"_blank\"><strong> fixing up the wooden plank Trollheim Bridge<\/strong><\/a> near Theodore Roosevelt Island in Arlington.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Socially distanced invasive plant removal seems like a 2020 thing to do.
