ALEXANDRIA, Va. \u2014<\/strong> Goodies Frozen Custard opened Memorial Day weekend in the old Mutual Ice Building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

My family of four visited on Sunday. The unseasonably cold, gray weather didn’t deter us or the crowd that visited.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By late afternoon, vanilla bean custard was all that was left. Between the four of us, we had two pints, a sundae with M&Ms and chocolate syrup and a Sprecker’s Root Beer float. That set us back $32.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, payment options are cash and Venmo. No credit cards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The scene<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The old Mutual Ice Building is freshly painted blue. Stainless steel milk tubs have been turned into planets with a variety of colorful flowers. Signs of gas stations and a Route 66 pump are out too. It’s a little kitschy. Oddly enough, “Goodies” isn’t really displayed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The jammin’ oldies coming from the speakers were a pleasant surprise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

History<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Goodies<\/strong><\/a> started as a food truck and was supposed to open this location last year, but…you know.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mutual Ice Company originally imported ice and then made its own. It lasted until 1969 (Party ice<\/a> <\/strong>– History Sidebar<\/em>)<\/p>\n\n\n\n
