Are you the kind who dances with the mountains<\/strong><\/a>? I am! I love skiing, even though I only get my fix on daytrips. Nevertheless:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Don’t hate winter, use it!<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

I adopted this motto several years ago. It helps get through these dark cold days.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s officially winter and the 2021-2022 Mid-Atlantic ski season started up <\/strong><\/a>(DCSki<\/em>) weeks ago. Well, not areas closest to the District<\/a> <\/strong>(DCSki<\/em> forums).

Have you been doing your wall sits?<\/strong> Seriously, it makes your day and the day after<\/em>, a whole lot better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Pandemic era skiing<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

It turns out that I’m not a good prognosticator<\/strong><\/a>. I didn’t go skiing last season because of the pandemic, but many others did. It seems to have worked well for those who did. SkiSoutheast said it was a great season<\/strong><\/a> in spite of everything, including natural snow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another winter of COVID-19 protocols is ahead of us and the labor market is tight for several reasons means it will not be normal yet. The Omicron variant adds more uncertainty. Review policies before buying lift tickets and decide if they make sense for you. I’ll probably skip those Caf\u00e9 Teria tenders & fries<\/strong><\/a> (sigh). Also, be smart and get vaccinated against COVID. It’s the right thing to do.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pennsylvania Ski Areas Association ended their 4th & 5th grade ski pass<\/strong><\/a>. It’s a big disappointment. I was looking forward to putting one under the Christmas tree for my younger son, like I did for his older brother. I’ll find another way, but it may not be in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

West Virginia still has a 4th and 5th grade passport<\/strong><\/a> for $35, so that will be a consideration. New York State also has a program<\/strong><\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
