Sunday, October 30 is likely the last day for kayak rentals in most of of the Washington, D.C. area. Some locations outside of the District may remain open into November, weather permitting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Autumn weather is unpredictable<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fall weather is fickle, as we saw on the weekend of October 1. Occoquan&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/www.penguinpaddling.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Penguin Paddling<\/strong><\/a> ended their rental season early.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p>We have reached the time of year when you go out in the morning, wearing shorts and flip flops, and think \u201cOh dear. I need jeans, shoes and a hoodie\u201d. <strong>While this is my personal favorite time of year to paddle<\/strong>, that is not the prevailing sentiment of our customer base. This seasonal shift leads to us having too few customers to justify remaining open. This year, our decision was bumped up due to the impending precipitation and wind conditions we anticipate this weekend from Hurricane Ian. While we aim for mid-October to remain open, we have already seen our amount of guests drop to where it does not make business sense to remain open. The foul weather of the hurricane will further impact the volume of our business for the remainder of the season.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Emphasis added because after months of humidity, those days when the sky is clear and the air is dry are just the best. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/lh3.googleusercontent.com\/pw\/AL9nZEVU1ysl91-yWiRJKv3Al2Ox7-V9M1c5ZQjodAr8eku2QWL5GjQsQKBIHbfQHRfDltGZOEavfEfRhdMEZaYMo1j01eOtU1bhc2eobdaGFVNONwvPci5_EakA_FX0_BJydDGHWSD6GTxHIG6rmAWzL13s=w760-h570-no?authuser=0\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Monday, October 10, Potomac River, Northwest DC<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/d\/u\/0\/edit?mid=1ZvqPiTACy_WCJUTstehXwCzoLarP-2J9&amp;ll=38.801705078124016%2C-77.26689377206486&amp;z=11\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>dckayaking.com map<\/strong><\/a> is updated as of October 13, 2022. There seems to be more red on it every week. Unfortunately, Four Mile Run can use all the help.
