I even chatted with them a bit and continued on my way.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">When I got back, I noticed something unusual about the new signals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52500492176_838ebdea7c_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The green arrow on D Street SW westbound was pointing left while 12th Street SW southbound had an active green phase.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">That&#8217;s a bad crash waiting to happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contacting 311<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A parking enforcement officer I flagged down recommend I contact 311. I tried calling first, but none of the menu options seemed to line up well which surprised me. So, my next step was to <a href=\"https:\/\/311.dc.gov\/citizen\/home\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>fill it out onli<\/strong><\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/311.dc.gov\/citizen\/home\"><strong>ne<\/strong><\/a>. I provided the photo above and an explanation and received an automated response at 3:09 p.m.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Mixed response<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52500492216_431fda04af_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Automated messages were quickly received in my email. By 3:29 p.m.  I was informed the issue was resolved. I was skeptical which was warranted. When I left work around 4:40 p.m. I saw the signals being worked on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A 90-ish minutes turnaround time is fairly good which makes the emails an hour earlier disappointing. &#8220;In progress&#8221; would have been the appropriate response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52504936659_a5056e6b7e_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">They did a better job than the original installers though &#8212; that&#8217;s an issue they have to catch.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>WASHINGTON, D.C. \u2014 On a recent afternoon, I was walking up the street to get a snack around 2:45 p.m. I noted that some technicians had installed some new traffic signals.
