That\u2019s right, it\u2019s District Broomball registration time again.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Join DC\u2019s Broomball league<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Now through September 6, you can <a href=\"https:\/\/capitolbroomball.wixsite.com\/capitolbroomball\/register-for-next-season\"><strong>sign up for the Fall 2024 District Broomball season<\/strong><\/a>. Starting Tuesday, September 10, District Broomball plays weekly through October 29.  That\u2019s almost two full months of Tuesday nights on the ice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tuesday night games breaks the week up really nicely.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">It&#8217;s a four-team league with games at 9 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. at Tucker Road Ice Rink.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">What is broomball?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Do you like ice hockey? Then you\u2019ll like broom ball. It\u2019s the same basic rules, tactics and strategy, but in special shoes instead of skates. The stick is a \u201cbroom\u201d and the puck is a ball about the size of a grapefruit. The league makes all those available to first time players. Helmets too.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Why a \u201cbroom?\u201d In the olden days, corn brooms were used. The sport has since evolved to have more specialized equipment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Game play has the same positions as hockey &#8211; 3 forwards (two wings, one center), 2 defense and goalie. We run in shifts just like in ice hockey and use the red and blue lines. The goal is a little bigger, but otherwise it\u2019s pretty much ice hockey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The league is 18 and over with men and women welcome. It\u2019s competitive and historically free of redasses &#8211; everybody wants to win, but we\u2019re here for a good time more than anything.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have been playing in the league since 2018, though I was introduced to the sports in <strong>REDACTED<\/strong> at Penn State. Since I found the league, I\u2019ve played about a dozen seasons. One season, I averaged a goal a game &#8211; <em>if I can do that<\/em>, so can you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Details<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Schedule:<\/strong> Tuesdays at 9:00 p.m. and 9:45 p.m. beginning September 10, 2024<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cost:<\/strong> $120 for returning players, <strong>$90 for first timers<\/strong> &#8211; that&#8217;s a 25% discount!<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-buttons is-layout-flex wp-block-buttons-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-button\"><a class=\"wp-block-button__link wp-element-button\" href=\"https:\/\/capitolbroomball.wixsite.com\/capitolbroomball\/register-for-next-season\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Register for the Fall 2024 District Broomball season<\/a><\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Location<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.pgparks.com\/4587\/Tucker-Road-Ice-Rink\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Tucker Road Ice Rink<\/strong><\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2021\/10\/capital-broomball-returning-to-tucker-road-with-pick-up-games.html#tucker-road-reopening\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>reopened in 2021<\/strong><\/a>, is located just minutes from the Capital Beltway (I-95\/495) and the Wilson Bridge.
