The event is <strong>FREE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A week out, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.wunderground.com\/hourly\/us\/va\/alexandria\/KVAALEXA283\/date\/2025-5-15\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the forecast looks good<\/a><\/strong> &#8211; 68 in the morning, 85 for a high in the afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cf2e2e\">New day of the week for an annual tradition<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52900331375_b770f67378_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"2022 Bike to Work Day swag, including a water botle, granola bar, bike bell, map, Nutri Grain bar and pink t-shirt.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Throughout the D.C. area, there will be pitstops in the morning and afternoon giving out swag like bike bells, <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2024\/01\/2023-the-year-in-complimentary-water-bottles.html\"><strong>water bottles<\/strong><\/a>, maps and snacks. If you pick the right stop, you might even get a quick tune-up. Plus, if you are one of the first 20,000 to register, you get a t-shirt. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I have been a pretty regular BTWD participant since 2017, even in years when I <em>had no work to bike too<\/em>. In Alexandria, the previous mayor regularly up at John Carlyle Square and other stops. One year, 2022, I think, I talked <s>at<\/s> to him about how<a href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/tag\/holmes-run-trail\"> <strong>the Holmes Run Trail is never whole<\/strong><\/a>, though we&#8217;re getting closer.<sup data-fn=\"8a85427d-5cd6-49c9-97d8-0fbbe891da68\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"8a85427d-5cd6-49c9-97d8-0fbbe891da68-link\" href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/#8a85427d-5cd6-49c9-97d8-0fbbe891da68\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year will be my seventh BTWD. The event was created by The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/bikeleague.org\/\">League of American Bicyclists <\/a><\/strong>in 1956. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.waba.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Washington Area Bicyclist Association<\/strong><\/a>&#8216;s first BTWD was 2001. Over 10,000 cyclists are participate annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/wfyurasko\/52900331390\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/52900331390_eb7d266b5c_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"&quot;George Orwell&quot; looks on as Mayor Justin Wilson and a BTWD volunteer make announcements.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This year&#8217;s t-shirt is <strong><mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#cf2e2e\" class=\"has-inline-color\">red<\/mark><\/strong>.<sup data-fn=\"30d3ee6e-62ea-4598-b3d4-58901c708178\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"30d3ee6e-62ea-4598-b3d4-58901c708178-link\" href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/#30d3ee6e-62ea-4598-b3d4-58901c708178\">2<\/a><\/sup> Other recent colors are raspberry, pink, yellow, light blue, green and purple. Why can&#8217;t we ever get <mark style=\"background-color:rgba(0, 0, 0, 0);color:#000033\" class=\"has-inline-color\"><strong>navy blue<\/strong><\/mark>?<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading has-white-color has-text-color has-background\" style=\"background-color:#cf2e2e\">Register<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">BTWD <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biketoworkmetrodc.org\/register\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>registration<\/strong><\/a> is open now with pit stops in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland.
