As far as I can tell, it was the same course as the <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2023\/10\/2023-philly-bike-ride-recap.html\"><strong>2023 edition<\/strong><\/a>. I really enjoyed it, especially since it didn&#8217;t rain this year.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/10\/image-8.png?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54864118084_c2dd217fb7_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Bicyclists queued up for the 2025 Philly Bike Ride with the Art Museum in the background.\"\/><\/a><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Some general observations<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Philly Bike Ride has far fewer riders than DC Bike Ride. The vibe is a little more subdued as well. In DC, it&#8217;s feels really joyful. Philly, it&#8217;s fine. Perhaps the cooler temperatures contribute to the calmer atmosphere.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I didn&#8217;t hear the Rocky music once. I&#8217;m calling this a win &#8211; I&#8217;m okay when events don&#8217;t ride the cliche.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I clocked in at about 80 minutes, slower than DC. I figured I&#8217;d be faster since I&#8217;ve done so many rides of late and Philly seems flatter. Maybe it&#8217;s because we had more city streets and no closed freeways.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I wish The Phanatic and Gritty were at the finish line. If I have to put up with E-A-G-L-E-S chants at random times, I should at least get to see the good mascots.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Packet pickup should stay open until 8 p.m. I wasn&#8217;t able to get myself and my bike onto SEPTA until after 6:30 which made me late. Thankfully, there were still a volunteers around. I was third to last to get my packet.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I really want to make this an annual event &#8211; family and friends, come with me!<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It&#8217;d be nice to have a phone camera that handles white balance better. This time I checked out the <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2025\/10\/first-ride-on-the-schuylkill-banks-trail.html\"><strong>Schuykill Banks trail<\/strong><\/a> and tried to go kayaking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Overall, Philly has decent bicycle infrastructure. There are bike lanes all over Center City and even in Southwest Philly, but they are unprotected.  I don&#8217;t know that I saw a flexpost in the who city. So, I&#8217;d say they are several years behind D.C. on that front. It&#8217;s a start though. I felt reasonably safe during my rides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I also biked over to Jim&#8217;s Steaks. That being said, most of the bike lanes are just markings and not otherwise separated. As the saying goes, <em>paint ain&#8217;t protection<\/em>. I feel like Philly is a good 5 years or so behind the DC, Alexandria and Arlington that front. Both had tables at the finish line.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54917321945_c7a51bdf89_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and Philly Bike Action stickers on a white countertop\"\/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\">What am I going to do with all of these stickers?<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-f56f613f wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\" style=\"flex-basis:66.66%\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">As mentioned on the <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2025\/10\/first-ride-on-the-schuylkill-banks-trail.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Schuykill Banks post<\/a><\/strong>, there are a lot of trails in the Delaware Valley that I&#8217;d like to explore. Collectively, they are known as the<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">At this point, I&#8217;ve bike through more of Philadelphia than any other major city other than D.C. I&#8217;m enjoying exploring the Philly and looking forward to more trips. There is a lot more to see.
