{"id":32005,"date":"2025-11-11T12:07:30","date_gmt":"2025-11-11T17:07:30","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/?p=32005"},"modified":"2025-11-11T12:07:30","modified_gmt":"2025-11-11T17:07:30","slug":"bicycling-across-the-ben-franklin-bridge-is-a-lot-less-scary-on-the-inner-portion-of-the-trail","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/yurasko.net\/wfy\/2025\/11\/bicycling-across-the-ben-franklin-bridge-is-a-lot-less-scary-on-the-inner-portion-of-the-trail\/","title":{"rendered":"Bicycling across the Ben Franklin Bridge is a lot less scary on the inner portion of the trail"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>CAMDEN, N.J. and PHILADELPHIA \u2014<\/strong> Following the <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/2025\/11\/philly-bike-ride-and-other-observations-from-riding-around-the-city-of-brotherly-love.html\"><strong>2025 Philly Bike Ride<\/strong><\/a>, I did something I did in 2023 too &#8211; I <a href=\"https:\/\/jus.tia.mybluehost.me\/website_3c1e0e40\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/11\/corssing-ben-franklin-bridge-train-bicycle.jpg\"><strong>bicycled across the Ben Franklin Bridge<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time wasn&#8217;t as scary.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are a few reasons for this:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>It wasn&#8217;t 49 and dizzily this time.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>I was on the inner portion of the footwalk.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Southern footwalk<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54862997907_7d73596049_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Camden Greenway sign near the Benjamin Franklin Bridge\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Last time, only the northern footwalk was open. That meant pedaling in-bound on the river side of the trail.<sup data-fn=\"a9d85b45-065e-4ef9-b544-f9ca60aeaa7c\" class=\"fn\"><a id=\"a9d85b45-065e-4ef9-b544-f9ca60aeaa7c-link\" href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/#a9d85b45-065e-4ef9-b544-f9ca60aeaa7c\">1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This time, the southern footwalk was open, so I was able to pedal on the roadway side of the trail, instead of the river. That made a big difference. It was still a white knuckle ride, but not as much so.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/live.staticflickr.com\/65535\/54864146925_0e7c2f75d6_b.jpg?ssl=1\" alt=\"Ben Franklin Bridge footwalk photo from the New Jersey side, looking at the Philadelphia skyline.\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The Southern footwalk is also completely accessible &#8211; I didn&#8217;t have to use stairs. That was most-welcome. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The views on the southern footwalk are better too, the skyline is not obscured by the bridge towers like on the northern side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I took <a href=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/2025\/11\/austerity-era-septa-and-patco.html#patco\"><strong>PATCO over from Philly<\/strong><\/a> this time too. It&#8217;d have been faster to just bike over on the northern footwalk and then back on the southern footwalk.
