The 2026 Washington Area Bicyclist Association<\/strong> Bike to Work Day<\/strong><\/a> is scheduled for Friday, May 15. The event is FREE<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The weather looks dry, though a little on the chilly side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Back to the traditional Friday BTWD<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Last year, BTWD broke from tradition and was held on a Thursday. This year, it’s back to Friday. Throughout the D.C. area, there will be pitstops in the morning and afternoon giving out swag like bike bells, water bottles<\/strong><\/a>, maps and snacks. If you pick the right stop, you might even get a quick tune-up. Plus, if you are one of the first 20,000 to register, you get a t-shirt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It’s purple<\/mark><\/strong>…again. Maybe someday, we’ll get navy blue…<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I have been a pretty regular BTWD participant since 2017, even in years when I had no work to bike too<\/em>. In Alexandria, the previous mayor regularly up at John Carlyle Square and other stops. One year, 2022, I think, I talked at<\/s> to him about how the Holmes Run Trail is never whole<\/strong><\/a>, though we’re getting closer.1<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This year will be my eighth BTWD. The event was created by The League of American Bicyclists<\/a><\/strong>2<\/a><\/sup> in 19 56. The Washington Area Bicyclist Association<\/strong><\/a>3<\/a><\/sup>‘s first BTWD was 2001. Over 10,000 cyclists are participate annually.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

BTWD registration<\/strong><\/a> is open now with pit stops in Washington, D.C., Northern Virginia and suburban Maryland. It’s rain or shine, so hopefully it’ll be shine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
