If you want to read about that, The Times is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/learning\/general\/onthisday\/big\/0506.html\"><b> their original coverage<\/b><\/a> on the <b>On This Day<\/b> page. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.absoluteastronomy.com\/encyclopedia\/H\/Hi\/Hindenburg_Disaster_Newsreel_Footage.htm\"><b>Oh the humanity!<\/b><\/a><\/p>\n<p>With that anniversary in mind, Philly&#8217;s paper of record published an article earlier this week about plans to make Lakehurst Naval Air Engineering Station a historic site. I hope it happens, it is probably an interesting place. Both sets of my grandparents have lived in the retirement communities just beyond the town at different times, so I am fairly familiar with the area, but I never made it onto the base. A cousin of mine has though (recently too) and he says it is kind of dingy. There is still an enormous blimp hanger there that can be seen from much of the surrounding area.
