Nationals prospect falsified identity<\/b><\/a> – Sports Illustrated<\/i>
Remember when the signing of Esmailyn “Smiley” Gonzalez was the ballyhooed signing that was suppossed to be an example of The Plan working? Well, it turns out that 16 year old prospect is really named Carlos Alvarez Daniel Lugo and four years older than he said.<\/p>\n

“This signing is symbolic of the Lerner family’s and incoming club president Stan Kasten’s pledge to become an industry leader in scouting and player development,” Washington general manager Jim Bowden said at the time of the deal.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

Nearly three years later, it certainly is a symbol, isn’t it?<\/p>\n

Yet another reason to fire Jim Bowden<\/span><\/a>. Remember, he and assistant GM Jose Rijo<\/span> (former Red), are under investigation from the FBI<\/span><\/a> for their actions with Dominican prospects.<\/p>\n
