BART RICHARDS AWARD<\/h2>\n

Every year, my College<\/b><\/a> hands out the Bart Richards Award for Media Criticism<\/b><\/a>. This year, the Project for Excellence in Journalism<\/b><\/a> won for The State of the News Media 2004: An Annual Report on American Journalism<\/i>. It is an exhaustive look at contemporary news media. The short of it — the news media is in trouble, big trouble. How reassuring for those of us in the business.<\/p>\n

The ceremeony, which convienetly takes place on the same Metro line that I live on (or at least one of them) is held annually at the National Press Club<\/b><\/a>. In addition to finding out about some excellent media criticism and thus reliving my glorious undergraduate days (when I was putting the “stud in media studies”), it is a great chance see some professors, meet some new people, and find out how the College of Communications faired (very well) over the last year.<\/p>\n
