Nationals Keep the Train Rolling<\/b><\/a> – The Post<\/i><\/p>\n

“That team, over there?” Yost said, gesturing with his thumb toward the Nationals’ clubhouse. “That’s a nice club. A nice club. They play the game right. They don’t make mistakes. And they’re tough.”<\/p><\/blockquote>\n

This is the kind of stuff you like to hear from opposing managers. The Nats are so good right now that they are overcoming tons of injuries, Cristian “Mendoza” Guzman<\/b> and even their own manager<\/b><\/a>. One has to wonder if Frank Robinson<\/b> would play the best guys available if they would be even better.<\/p>\n

I was able to catch the end of the game yesterday on WFED. Chad Cordero<\/b> had to face 5 batters to get through the ninth. \u00a1LIVAN!<\/b> got the win to go 7 – 2 for the season.<\/p>\n

I am going with my gut, a la Frank Robinson, to say that I would not be shocked if the “something” this rivalry loses is fan civility. Maybe I am exaggerating here, but I expect that the crowd greeting the Nationals will be a really tough one, so hopefully the the Nats are prepared. The Canadian Press<\/i> indicates that, the Blue Jays, have not received many inquiries about this series<\/b><\/a> from fans or media, so maybe my gut is refuted by widely available data. Like I said, a la Frank Robinson.<\/p>\n

Also, the Nats have yet to hit a three-run homer or a grand slam this season. The last team to go this long at the start of the season was the ’94 Expos. Hmmmm, I think I like the comparison.<\/p>\n

Vargas to pitch on short notice<\/b><\/a> – The Wash. Times<\/i>
As if things will not be tough enough up in Toronto, Claudio Vargas<\/b> is getting the nod. I think I would rather see Zach Day<\/b> in there, he pitched well on short notice early in the year, but he may not be ready.<\/p>\n
Mayor wants ballpark financing soon<\/b><\/a> – The Wash. Times<\/i>
Mayor Anthony Williams<\/b> met with The Wash. Times<\/i> yesterday. He is concerned that the council is continuing to look at private financing plans other than the one that CFO Natwar Ghandi<\/b> certified. Also of concern are attempts of some councilmembers to derail the whole project. The mayor wants to get going and try to get the ballpark built by 2008, which I don’t see it happening, at least not by April of that year.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
