The <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2008\/11\/i-99-finally-opened-yesterday-but.html\"><b>road opened in November 2008<\/b><\/a>, but was not technically Interstate 99 yet (and may not be right now) due to the fact that its number through legislation sponsored by the Rep. <b>Bud Shuster<\/b> instead of through AASHTO. It turns out that was much less offesnive than the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2007\/06\/fools-gold-relocation-for-i-99.html\"><b>removal of environmental testing<\/b><\/a> the Shuster championed. Sure enough, there was <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2008\/07\/i-99-on-schedule-to-open-4-years-79.html\"><b>an environmental problem that cost about $80 million to fix and added years to the construction<\/b><\/a>.<\/p>\n<table width=\"100\" align=\"right\">\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/beltway\/I-99_tiny.gif\"><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/table>\n<p>By the way, the construction of the northern end of i-99, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.centredaily.com\/news\/local\/story\/1256830.html?commentSort=TimeStampAscending&#038;pageNum=1\"><b>a high speed interchange with I-80<\/b><\/a> (<i>CDT<\/i>) is encountering local resistance. It is not funded yet, so the resistance is not a big deal &#8212; yet.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, the i-99 shields on big green signs were not directly applied, they are on a green panel and look sloppy.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/website_3c1e0e40\/graphics\/technorati.gif\" border=\"0\">  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tag\/i99\" rel=\"tag\">i-99<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tag\/intestate99\" rel=\"tag\">intestate 99<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tag\/PennDOT\" rel=\"tag\">PennDOT<\/a>,  <a href=\"http:\/\/www.technorati.com\/tag\/Pennsylvanina\" rel=\"tag\">Pennsylvania<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"blogger-post-footer\">&copy;MMX William F.
