Nats’ Win Is Worth 2 Grand<\/b><\/a> – The Post<\/i>
Willingham smashes two grand slams<\/b><\/a> – The Wash. Times<\/i>
I guess it was about three weeks ago (against Houston I believe) when someone on Twitter came up with a funny nickname for OF Josh Willingham<\/span> — Ham Solo. Willingham had hit about ten home runs so far in the season, all of them solo. Naturally, just about as soon as I saw that nickname, he hit his first multi-run homer of the year. Entering last night, only 2 of his 14 homers were with men on base. His 15th and 16th homers came with the bases full though — two grand slams in one game! That happens less frequently than perfect games. They were the difference in the Nats 14-6 victory in Milwaukee. Adam Dunn<\/span> nearly hit a grand slam before Willingham, hitting a ball into the fourth deck, but foul. Ten of Nats runs came off of Brewers starter Jeff Suppan.<\/span><\/p>\n

Craig Stammen<\/span>, Washington’s starter, left one out short of the five innings, giving up five runs. I think he was probably pretty happy about Willingham bailing him out.<\/p>\n

Ryan Zimmerman<\/span> also homered.<\/p>\n

Making batters put the ball in play has worked out well for John Lannan<\/span> as the pitcher is not having to throw as many pitches to get through an inning. His strike out totals have gone down, but his innings have gone up.<\/p>\n
