THe Nationals declined to pick up the 2010 option on his contract, buying him out for $1 million instead of paying him to play for $10 million. It is obviously the right decisions because Kearns can no longer hit.<\/p>\n<p>Kearns arrived with <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Felipe Lopez<\/span> in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.yurasko.net\/wfy\/2006\/07\/nats-make-big-trade.html\"><span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">a 2006 trade with the Cincinnati Reds<\/span><\/a> for relievers <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Gary Majewski<\/span>, <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Bill Bray<\/span> and <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Daryl Thompson<\/span>, infielder <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Brendan Harris<\/span> and shortstop <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Royce Clayton<\/span>. At the time, it seemed like a great trade for the Nats, but in the end, it wound up being &#8220;meh.&#8221; Lopez was a malcontent who got cut in 2008. Kearns signed a big contract but never lived up to the expectations that <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Jim Bowden<\/span> set for him which seemed unrealistic at the time. Kearns really did not live up to any expectations the last two years, but it was not for a lack of professionalism &#8212; he just couldn&#8217;t hit anymore. <\/p>\n<p>Kearns was drafted by the Reds, run by Bowden at the time, in the first round, in the second round of the same year they picked <span style=\"font-weight:bold;\">Adam Dunn<\/span>. They are good friends.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Dmitri Young is a free agent too. Just a few words for da Meathook &#8212; fat dianetic and lazy is no way to go through life. His 2-year, $10 milion contract is typical Bowden &#8212; help your friends, not your team.
