The Washington Nationals are headed to Wrigley Field to play the Chicago Cubs in a three game series starting tonight. Tomorrow night too.

Q#@%&^#!<\/span> The whole appeal of the Cubs is day baseball at Wrigley Field. We got robbed! I wanted them on during the afternoon, especially today since the Capitals are playing tonight and my other team, the New York Yankees are televised Tuesday – Thursday. For the 20 minutes after my son goes to bed and before I pass out on the couch, I’ll have to flip channels.*<\/sup><\/span> Curse you schedule maker! And the Caps for not showing up in the first period on Friday night.<\/p>\n

In addition to the joy of an unexpected winning record<\/span><\/a> (which probably jinxes this week), the other storyline of this Nats-Cubbies series is Alfonso Soriano<\/span>. In one of the more successful moves of Jim Bowden<\/span>‘s dreadful tenure as GM was trading original Nats Brad Wilkerson<\/span> and Termel Sledge<\/span> (neither did much after 2005) for Soriano while I was honeymooning in December 2005. Soriano went on to have an amazing season — 46 homers, 41 stolen bases. The Lerner-Kasten ownership took a lot of flak for not signing him or at least trading him at the deadline. “We finished in last place with him, we can finish in last place without him” was the mantra used. Do you recall what I said at the time<\/b><\/a>?<\/p>\n

The Nats got compensatory picks that turned into pitchers Josh Smoker<\/span> and Jordan Zimmermann<\/span>. Smoker might not have it, due in part to injuries, but Zimmermann looked to be the real deal before needing Tommy John surgery.<\/p>\n

So, who do you think made the right choice, the Cubs or the Nats?<\/p>\n
