Manute Bol, former Washington Bullet and one of NBA’s tallest players, dies at 47<\/b><\/a> – The Post<\/i>
\nManute Bol, N.B.A. Player and Activist, Dies at 47<\/b><\/a> – The Times<\/i>
\nSaturday afternoon the sad news of Washington Bullets standout Manute Bol<\/strong>‘s untimely passing became known. I will let the obituaries talk about about all the he did for his native Sudan; I’ll mention my memories of Manute.<\/p>\n

My 8th grade math teacher, Mr. Ruff was very proud to have a life size Manute growth chart poster in his classroom. It was the second most memorable thing about Mr. Ruff — the other being that he was a doppleganger for the guy on the Pringles can.<\/p>\n

Secondly and more importantly, my family got company tickets to the Feb. 28. 1992 Bullets vs. Portland Trail Blazers game at the US Air Arena nee Capital Centre. In addition to having floor seats next to the basket I remember that Manute was sitting on courtside as well. My brother went up and got a 76ers pennant for Manute to sign. I see if I can find it at my folks house.<\/p>\n

Most of all, Manute is going to remembered with great fondness for this photo with teammate Muggsy Bogues<\/strong>:<\/p>\n

Actually, how about a true-life<\/a> (i.e. no multiple arms<\/strong><\/a>) statue<\/a> of this somewhere at the phone booth. That is going on my list of deliverables for Ted Leonsis<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n
