My good friend Tom Harrison wants to hear my reaction to last night’s debate and here it is:
I did not watch it. I went for a walk and then I went to bed. The whole enterprise is designed so that neither candidate will really do too well or too badly. Also, the race is so polarizing as it is, I doubt many of the “swing voters,” that people insist exist, will make a decision based on these affairs. I have a feeling the best way to determine which the direction the election will go (all things being equal, i.e. no Islamist evil on our shores) is to watch a particular cable channel. No, not Fox News or CNN. I think it will be The Weather Channel that will present the best indicator of who will win the election. If it is cold and rainy/icy in Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Michigan and the other swing (formerly bellwether) states it means Bush will probably get a second term. Decent weather gives Kerry a shot. How is that for Inside the Beltway analysis?
SO, NOW WHAT?
Brenda congratulated me on the Expos coming to D.C. in her blog yesterday and wondered aloud what the blog would be about now. I answered her question in a comment (published twice for some reason) with the entry. I am half joking there, though I really think Marion Barry will be elected again.
