Owners Approve Baseball in Washington by 29-1 VoteThe Post

No surprises here, the owners, except for Peter Angelo$, are really happy to move the team here under the existing agreement.

Back in September, I think Ryan Moore said it best when he described this vote:

Angelos is about to get stabbed four hundred times by his friends, Caesar-style.

Of course, Ryan and the rest of us thought this particular vote was imminent, but hey, what’s two more months? Nothing has happened on schedule and I almost think that when things do, that is when we are really in trouble. As for Angelo$, he needs to realize that MLB has no legal obligation to compensate him at all and should be grateful for whatever he is getting. They are stretching with him when the have made it clear they will not with D.C. Thom Loverro of The Wash. Times addresses this in his column today: A precedent that MLB won’t break. There is also The Wash. Times article on the vote which includes more on Linda Cropp’s insistence to sit down with MLB. Hopefully, she will come out any meeting saying things like, “yes sir, I understand,” rather than “there is no way I can vote yes.”

Early Sales to Nationals Fans Score BigThe Post

Hundreds Show Up on Store’s Opening Day for Caps, Pennants, Other Paraphernalia

I would say, a tip of the Nats cap to all those true believers who went out and bought merchandise yesterday, but I do not have one. I want to believe (and buy merchandise), oh so badly, but I have lived in BeltwayLand for long enough that I know the council can screw it up. We could pay dearly for the political naïveté of Linda Cropp. Hopefully, others on the council can be swayed to make her vote irrelevant. People showed up early yesterday at the Nats stand and it wound up being opened early.
