Kentucky Derby 131
Today is one of the biggest days on the Yurasko calendar — our annual Kentucky Derby Party.
Every year we have some good friends over to my ‘rents hosue and celebrate the greatest two minutes in sports with mint juleps, the singing of “My Old Kentucky Home” (poorly), dollar bets, and lots of food.
Full coverage of the race it available on The Courier-Journal’s Web site. I met some folks from this Louisville paper during training at work and they were alright.
This year, I have not really followed the field, but I am pretty sure George Steinbrenner’s horse, Bellamy Road (5/2), is not going to win; the favorite never does and this guy cannot buy a break these days. Perhaps Jeremy Rose of Bellefonte (CDT) will be the winner aborad Afleet Alex (9/2).
And of course, I would be remiss if I did not link to Hunter S. Thompson’s The Kentucky Derby is Decadent and Depraved (derbypost.com). This article, originally from Scanlon’s Magazine, was the birth of Gonzo journalism (for better or worse) and his first collabaration with illustrator Ralph Stedman.
