Nats Name 3 Coaches To Staff – The Post
The new coaching staff has been announced. Not suprisingly, Mitchell Page was named hitting coach. He held that position with the Cardinals for three seasons but drank his way out of the organization. He went into rehab following departure from St. Louis and served as the roving minor league hitting instructor for the Nats last season. Page looks to be a significant upgrade over Tom McGraw if he can stay clean. McGraw may be rehired for as a scout.
Also joining the staff are former Milwaukee manager Davey Lopes as first base coach and Tony Beasley at third. Lopes stole 557 base over 16 seasons and Beasley was a winner as a skipper in the minors for the Pirates. The team retains Randy St. Claire for pitchers and Eddie Rodriguez on the bench but still needs a bullpen coach. Oh if you want more, go to Distinguished Senators (up a little early or still up?) for links to what all the other bloggers are saying, like “don’t worry about Sosa.”

Council considers consultant on stadium – The Wash. Times
Remember that lawyer I mentioned the other day? Well, Louis S. Cohen and other lawyers for DLA Piper Rudnick Gray Cary were in town talking to the council yesterday. They said this was the most generous deal ever, which cannot go over well with anyone, but there seems to be some optimism.
I expect an indignant DuPuy statement to be released at about 4:59 p.m. today about “a deal is a deal” etc.
