PENN STATE 66
#6 ILLINOIS 65
Last-second three called off, Illinois stunned at home – ESPN.com
Just like football, right? Well, not quite because the basketball team actually outscored the football team (barely — 3 points) in their respective visits to Urbana-Champaign. That is great, but more importantly Penn State’s men’s basketball team did the unthinkable — they won at #6 Illinois yesterday, ending the Illini’s 33 game home winning streak.
We knew the Nits would be better than last year and would get an upset or two, but this is just a shocker. So much so that it led the 2 a.m. SportsCenter over Super Bowl coverage. There is video too.
Hopefully, this a great game for the program and not just a huge upset. Nobody is going to blow off the Lions now, so the road form here on out gets harder. It is worth it though. With 11 wins under their belt they are drawing ever closer to post-season eligibility and the return of the days when you can’t spell Nittany without N-I-T.
