Soriano, some other guy file on day 2 of free agency

Nats’ Soriano Files For Free AgencyThe Post
LF Alfonso Soriano is officially a free agent now. Nats president Stan Kasten is trying to soften the eventual blow:

There’s certainly nothing certain about what will happen after this year, but we do love Alfonso and what he’s done for our team, what he means to our team, and what he means to our fans. And if there’s a way for us to keep him consistent with building a world championship, we’ll do that.

Soriano is going to ask for $18 million over 5 to 6 years. Who would be stupid enough to spend that on him?

Also, Tony Armas, Jr. filed for free agency, but it hardly matters since no one will really want him this year either. I’ll bet he is back in D.C. next season. Lastly, the team was given permission to speak to Jose Oquendo, 3rd base coach for the world champs. This might be an attractive offer based soley on the fact that D.C. is a safer place to live than St. Louis (USA Today).
