Yesterday, the Nats signed another 12 players to non-guaranteed, minor league contracts:

Pitchers Jesus Colome, Anastacio Martinez, Luis Martinez and Arnie Munoz, outfielders George Lombard and Abraham Nunez, first baseman Travis Lee and infielders Melvin Dorta, D’Angelo Jimenez, Jose Macias, Jorge Toca and Tony Womack.

The Nationals are working Jose Rijo’s baseball academy to establish a presence in the Dominican Republic again. Prior to being owned by MLB, the Expos were successful in finding Dominican talent like Vladimir Guerrero and Pedro Martinez.

The Nationals are having a winter caravan throughout BeltwayLand, plus Hagerstwon, Fredericksburg, Richmond and Virginia Beach.

Manager Manny Acta, outfielder Nook Logan, left-hander Mike O’Connor and third baseman Ryan Zimmerman will be on hand to participate in the team’s caravan.

Nationals broadcasters Charlie Slowes, Hall of Famer Don Sutton and Dave Jageler will serve as moderators for the various events to be held throughout the region.
