Super Bowl security on full alert in Miami – USA Today
Once again, the government is taking security measures too far:
MIAMI — Don’t look for any blimps over Super Bowl XLI Sunday. For two hours before kickoff until midnight, the Federal Aviation Administration will allow only approved military, law enforcement and medical aircraft within 10 miles of Dolphin Stadium.
Chalk this up to another overreaction by government to the Islamic-fascist-terrorist threat. Sure, somebody had the idea of using the Goodyear Blimp as a weapon back in the 1970s, but really how hard is it to verify a blimp doesn’t have explosives or poison darts? The hanger for one of the blimps is in Pompano Beach, just a few miles up the road from the stadium.
When the blimp is grounded, the terrorists win.
