Good morning! Are you in line yet for your Nationals single game tickets? They go on sale for people who don’t read Capitol Punishment (why wouldn’t you?) at 9 a.m. on nationals.com at at the RFK Stadium box office. Rick Snider of talks about the big games on this year’s schedule in today’s The Wash. Examiner. T(h)om Loverro talks about one of those big games, the season-and-stadium finale (The Wash. Times) in September.
Down in Viera, yesterday must have been Emillio Fruto day. Two papers (The Post & The Free Lance-Star) write articles about him and Florida Today mentions him along with Shawn Hill in another story. Player development director Bob Boone says Fruto is “a baby with a big arm.” A big head too, his 7 3/8 hat does not really fit his head.
This year is make or break (The Wash. Times) time for OF Ryan Church and everbody, including the seemingly star crossed outfielder (Florida Today) knows it. Another outfielder, oft injured Alex Escobar faces similar circumstances (The Post).
Mark Lerner is quite pleased with the upgrades to Space Coast Stadium (The Wash. Times). The highest profile member of the ownership visited spring training for the first time as someone with more than just a fan. The awful teal seats leftover from the Marlins days are being replaced and the facility is being made more structurally sound.
Corporate Crime Reporter was not happy about the chalk advertisements for the Nationals on city sidewalks.
One Free Lance-Star reporter calls RFK Stadium “a giant, dank concrete cave devoid of personality” in his article praising spring training and the Phillies Clearwater facility in general.
