The Nationals got their second win of the spring yesterday, defeating Houston 12-5 (ESPN Boxscore). Jason Simontacchi and Jason Bergmann both pitched well (The Wash. Times) over seven innings on a windy day in Viera. Ray King (2 ER) and Chad Cordero also got some work in out of the bullpen. SS Josh Wilson helped his own cause (Florida Today) by going 3 for 3 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs.
John Patterson pitched well (The Post) in the “B” game.
Armed Forces Day at Historic Space Coast Stadium hit close to home (The Post) with Ryan Church. The outfielder’s brother Matthew is shipping out for Tikrit, Iraq on Sunday. The team also wore blue (?) camouflage hats.
Nobody, especially Screech’s Best Friend, will miss Tony Womack, who was cut yesterday (Florida Today).
Out of market MLB games will appear on a 24 hour channel on DirecTV (The Wash. Times) starting in 2009. After lots of uproar from fans and the government, InDemand (cable) and DishTV will also get a shot to sign up with the package.
Someday, our grandkids will be amazed we actually used physical tickets to enter Nats games. This year the Nats are testing a wireless ticketing system (The Wash. Times) that uses Scottish technology.
