Carroll H. Cook (’54 Pitt) made returned for his monthly ESPN.com chat yesterday. He came out swinging.

SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:12 PM ET ) By the way, there is nothing like a Brewers-Nationals afternoon game. I tried to get box seats for that game, but I failed. Besides, I wouldn’t want to miss this chat. 1-1 in the 8th by the way.

Given that the Brewers are the best team in baseball right now, that was clearly a shot at the Nats. Ouch, they are the National Punchline now.

Rob (Baltimore): How do you like Penn St.’s chances this year? Is this the year Derrick Williams finally lives up th the hype?

SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:32 PM ET ) First, the schedule is favorable. Most of the tough games are at home.Penn State’s success depends on QB Anthony Morelli. All of the other pieces seem to be in place. Penn State is currently 30-1 to win the national title.

Morelli is a big factor, but I’ll argue the offensive line is probably the biggest.

Rob (Baltimore): Song girls, dotting the eye and touchdown jesus, blah blah blah. Were you ever in Beaver Stadium during a white-out and heard the student section sing “hey baby”? That is pretty amazing.

SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:33 PM ET ) You have your three, I have my three…No, I have never been there in Corvallis.

SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:34 PM ET ) The last time I was in Oregon I was trying to get a part in Animal House. I know you are wondering, but I would have made a great D-Day. Blutarsky was taken.

Um, Beano…

Rob (Baltimore): Beano, Beaver Stadium is home to Penn St.

SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:37 PM ET ) My fault…Obviously you meant University Park, not Corvallis…we saw Beavers and thought about Oregon State. I was talking about Oregon for Animal House.

Beano really wasn’t on his game yesterday. In fact, he left abruptly at about 3:43 p.m., seventeen minutes early. Who’d have thunk he was so into Animal House though?
