Beano Watch: Damn Damn Damn

This is old (two weeks ago) and I missed it on the first go round. I almost wish I hadn’t seen it because anyone familiar with Carroll H. Cook (’54 Pitt) knows tha this prognostication history with Penn State suggests the opposite of what he says tends to happen .

Chris (Kalamazoo, Michigan): Wait one sec…Michigan and ND love their rivalry. And how can you say Big Ten teams only want to play easy nonconference games? Texas vs OSU; ND vs Michigan, MSU, Penn State, Purdue. I think your are thinking of the SEC.

SportsNation Beano Cook: No. The Big Ten plays four non-conference games…look at penn State’s beside the ND game. Michigan does play Oregon and notre Dame. This year Ohio State plays Akron, Kent State, Youngstown State and at Washington. In most cases the Big Ten will play one tough non-league game.

Like I said, this is outdated. He is right about Penn State’s weak out of conference schedule though, so we can’t bash him for something we all say ourselves.

Phil (New York): Beano, How do you feel about Joe Paterno’s punishment of the entire team for the actions of a few players. Personally I feel it’s sending a good message while building team unity? Others may see it as a cop out and a way to deflect criticism away from the players who committed the crimes?

SportsNation Beano Cook: I have no problem. Joe Paterno took the action that he deemed best. I don’t disagree with him.

Beano siding with Paterno and not taking a cheap shot?

Mikey (Philly): Beano, who do you see as a sleeper national title contender?

SportsNation Beano Cook: Penn State. They are 30-1 to win the national title. Paterno has a dangerous team.

Well that puts the NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! in Beano, doesn’t it? Oh man, that’s like getting punched in the stomach. Are you sure you wanted to talk about Penn State football, Maryland Bureau Chief?
