Phillies’ Homers Sink NationalsThe Post

Phillies outslug NationalsThe Wash. Times

Ryan Howard, Jimmy Rollins and Pat Burrell each homered, knocking Shawn Hill out after six runs in 4 2/3 innings, his worst outing as a National. The bullpen shut the visitors down though, but it was too late.

Ryan Church hit his 40th double of the season, despite losing playing time to Wily Mo Peña.

Speaking of Peña, he is listed day to day with a contusion on his right hand.

Manny Acta has not played younger players (The Post) as much as he wanted to because he wants to win ballgames. Frankly, I think playing the prospects might be a little more important at this point. Whether they win 69, 72 or 74 gams isn’t that important in the big picture (The Plan!), finding out what prospects can play and getting them experience is, right?

The Phillies beat the Nationals for the ninth team this season, clinching at least a tie for Cliff in our wager. Not even the Phillies can choke with a 9-4 advantage with five games to go, right?
