Carroll H. Cook (’54 Pitt) chatted yesterday and had a little bit to say about the alma mater.
Jeff (Alexandria, VA): Beano: Despite critics saying otherwise, JoePa has run out of the Beaver Stadium tunnel to lead his Nittany Lions onto the field, bouncing back from that ugly leg injury last year. It seems that Joe can do anything…does that include one more national championship?
SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:09 PM ET ) I picked Penn State to play for the national championship game. I think Penn State will contend. I was one person who never thought Paterno was washed up. I said 5-6 years ago he would win one more national title before he retired in the 22nd century.
He did stick up for Paterno all of those years which felt odd. He can’t go the whole chat on Penn State’s side, can he?
Josh (Wernersville, PA): Beano, if Michigan is without Henne for 3 more weeks, do they start 0-5?
SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:10 PM ET ) That is an interesting point. They could lose the next three games, I suppose, That would include a loss at Northwestern, so I will say no, the Wolverines will not be 0-5. They may be 3-2 for all we know. I would not put them out against the Irish and the Nittany Lions. Who would have thought that Buffalo would have more wins than Notre Dame and Penn State combined.
That’s an error, Buffalo is 1-1, while Penn State is 2-0. Notre Dame is 0-2 (heh heh). I think he meant Michigan.
lisa, norman: Well, you’ve gotta admit, Kansas will at least finish ahead of Iowa State…
SportsNation Beano Cook: (3:47 PM ET ) My Wednesday isn’t complete unless I stick the needle into the Big Ten or Penn State since both are so sensitive. They have as much humor as the Third Reich. Iowa State lost to Northern Iowa. Enough said.
Um, that’s kind of out of nowhere in relation to the question. It isn’t the first time he has made that comparison though. I think he couldn’t hold on long enough to use that this season, so he jumped the gun early. By the way, I think in the scenario Beano is alluding to, he is Poland.
I imagine he will have more to say next week.
