Blue White Roundtable: Impending Doom

Run Up The Score! provides this week’s questions. Go see how The Nittany Line, Black Shoe Diaries, There Is No Name On My Jersey and The Nittany Notebook answered them this week.

1. Reportedly, Penn State is playing some school in a mitten-shaped state this weekend. Are any of you actually optimistic for the Michigan game?

I’m not optimistic at all about Saturday’s game. Over the last ten years, Penn State has found seemingly every way to lose to Michigan. If it were at home, I might be, but Joe Paterno coaches too conservatively on the road.

2. Okay, we all know that Penn State has lost eight straight games against Michigan since 1997. Plenty of PSU fans blame the coaches’ offensive game planning, calling it predictable and bland. Fair criticism? If the definition of “insane” is repeating the same act over and over again and expecting a different result, does this make our coaching staff absolutely crazy?

I kind of get the feeling these might be loaded questions. My answer to both questions: Yes.

3. List three things Penn State absolutely must do in order to finally beat Michigan.

  • Blitz the quarterback
  • Send the wideouts on routes all over the field, not just to sidelines
  • Return an interception, punt or kickoff for a touchdown

Would you rather be facing a one-legged Henne or a two-legged Mallett this weekend?

Given what we know of Henne, I think I’d rather see him with one leg than an unknown. However, a one-legged Henne could easily result in a two-legged Mallett. Either way, the defense better blitz often. Henne is merely a good quarterback benefiting from a strong running game.

    Your score prediction?

    Penn State 20
    Michigan 22

Do you see any upsets on the Big Ten horizon this week?

Not really, though I imagine Iowa will be pretty fired up heading into Wisconsin, looking for an Old Testament-style win coming off of their loss to Iowa State.

In one word, tell us if the constant griping by Penn State fans about Big Ten officiating is valid.
