From worst to … not quite first – The Wash. Times
Coming off of two strong drafts, the Nationals farm system is expected to leap out of last place in the Baseball America rankings. While the franchise has been successful in acquiring exciting prospects, it still lacks depth.
Team Trying to Keep Its Place on Radio Dial – The Post
The front office is in negoiations with Bonneville to keep the Nats on the 1500 AM, 107.7 FM and 820 AM frequencies that have been known as Washington Post Radio, but will become 3WT in a few weeks. They would probably have to buy the time and sell the advertising rather than get a rights fee. This is apparently fairly common these days and teh same kind of arrangement the Capitals have with Bonneville.
I’d like to see this deal happen, I also want to see Charlie Slowes and Dave Jaegler retained, the former has really grown on me. On the TV side, Bob Carpenter’s contract is up and I am pretty ambivalent about him. Don Sutton has a multi-year contract, so he will be around for a while.
JIM BOWDEN – Nats have shown heart – The Wash. Examiner
For some reason, I actually read Bowden’s column today. He talks up the team for defying expectations of many in baseball.
RYAN ZIMMERMAN – Nats have chance to play spoiler – The Wash. Examiner
The third baseman is looking forward to playing spoiler and the easier travel schedule (All NL East teams) in the last several weeks of the season.
The Nats open a three game series (The Wash. Times) in Atlanta tonight.
